Our heaviest sign material
Our heavy 24 gauge (slightly less thick than a credit card) is a rigid sign material that does not bend or bow., making it perfect for hanging from a post. Steel Signs come with a thin galvanized coating to help protect against rust and corrosion. We also apply a white polyester coating onto the galvanized coating to produce a clean smooth high gloss finish. Note: Rusting can and will occur to any area of the sign where these protective coatings have been chipped, worn, or scratched. Steel is also a heavy material, so shipping fees will be slightly higher than other materials. For extra durability and to avoid scratching, consider upgrading your sign with our Sign Shield laminate.
- Most commonly displayed with posts
- Not recommended for beachfront properties
- Will rust if chipped or scratched
Aluminum
Our best selling custom sign material!
The gold standard for sign panels nationwide and a standard upgrade from plastic materials. Baked on enamel glossy finish guaranteed never to rust. Lightweight and yet rigid, .040 aluminum will not bow or yellow as compared to .100 Poly and .100 PVC. Perfect for displaying signs on a post at your most prominent properties. .040 Aluminum is like 24 gauge steel, and is slightly thicker than one credit card. Our .063 Aluminum is like 20 gauge steel, and is as thick as a nickel. Aluminum won't rust; we guarantee no rusting, chalking or breaking for up to five years. For extra durability and to avoid scratching, consider upgrading your sign with our Sign Shield laminate.
- Most commonly ordered with our colonial posts but great to use with frames.
- Great for extreme temperatures
4-mil Cor-x
This corrugated plastic sign material is 1/8" thick (approximately 5 stacked credit cards.). Non-Yellowing, lightweight, durable, weatherproof and inexpensive. While not typically used as a main listing sign, 4-mil Cor-x offers a cost-effective option that’s perfect for directional signs or temporary listings. Signs generally last 12-18 months under most conditions.
- Perfect for temporary listings, directionals or as a starter sign.
- Most commonly ordered with our ¼” Wire Stake

8-mil Cor-x
Thicker than 4-mil Cor-x, this corrugated plastic material is very durable and rigid. It is a full 3/8" thick (approximately 10 stacked credit cards), however it's fairly lightweight, and weatherproof. A great option if aluminum or steel are too heavy for your needs. Perfect for hanging signs, commercial signs & heavy-duty directional signs. Should last 24 months under most conditions.
- Most commonly ordered with our Round Rod Stake
- Great for extreme temperatures
- Due to its thickness, we do not recommend displaying with a frame
Polyethylene "Poly"
This popular economic plastic sign material is .100 thick (i.e. about the thickness of three credit cards.), extremely durable, and performs well in all weather conditions. Polyethylene signs last up to 3 years in most conditions. Polyethylene, due to its natural properties, will sometimes "bow", being more apparent on darker sign panels and/or imprints, and as material ages and is not recommended has a hanging sign. A more durable alternative to poly is our 3 mm alumibond or .040 aluminum. Oakley Signs & Graphics will not replace any poly material that bows due to natural causes. For extra durability and to avoid scratching, consider upgrading your sign with our Sign Shield laminate.
PVC
Our most popular plastic sign material!
This rigid plastic material is .100 thick (i.e. about the thickness of 3 stacked credit cards) with a high gloss finish. PVC weathers well and unlike poly plastic this rigid material does not bend or bow. Great for hanging from a post. Will last up to 3 years in most conditions. For extra durability and to avoid scratching, consider upgrading your sign with our Sign Shield laminate.
- Great for use with our frames or posts.
